What size air compressor is suitable for a sandblasting machine (and what wattage is better to match it)
2023-09-01 19:46:04

A sandblasting machine is a machine powered by compressed air that forms a high-speed jet beam to spray material at high speed onto the surface of the workpiece to be treated, causing changes in the mechanical properties of the surface of the workpiece.

An air compressor, also known as an air pump, is a fundamental product in modern industrialization. It is a device that converts the mechanical energy of a prime mover (usually an electric motor) into gas pressure energy.

The application of sandblasting machines cannot be separated from air compressors. The air generated by the air compressor plays a driving role in the sandblasting process. Different sandblasting machines require different air compressors. In terms of sandblasting power and intensity, sandblasting machines can be divided into ordinary pressure sandblasting machines, pressurized sandblasting machines, and high-pressure sandblasting machines. The air compressor connected to the sandblasting machine is generally selected with a pressure of 0.8 Mpa, and then an appropriate air compressor is chosen based on the required air source size of the sandblasting machine.

What size air compressor is suitable for a sandblasting machine, and what wattage and flow rate are preferable? For conventional pressure sandblasting machines, also known as siphon sandblasting machines, the sandblasting power is lower than that of other two types of sandblasting machines, namely the pressurized and high-pressure sandblasting machines. Each gun on such sandblasting machines requires an air compressor with a minimum air output of 1 cubic meter per minute, which corresponds to an air compressor of at least 7.5KW.

Both pressure-feeding sandblasting machines and high-pressure sandblasting machines belong to the pressure-feeding sandblasting machine category. The sandblasting power of a single gun in a pressure-feeding sandblasting machine is lower than that in a high-pressure sandblasting machine. The air compressor required for each gun on a pressure-feeding sandblasting machine must have a minimum air output of 2 cubic meters per minute, which corresponds to an air compressor of 15KW.

The air compressor required for each gun on a high-pressure sandblasting machine should have a minimum air output of 3 cubic meters per minute, which corresponds to an air compressor of 22KW.

The selection and purchase of air compressors for sandblasting not only involves how to utilize funds reasonably, but also has a direct impact on the economic efficiency and reliability of normal operation in the future.

According to national standard regulations, the exhaust pressure of the air compressor used for sandblasting should be 0.7 MPa.

If the pressure is higher or lower than this value, it is considered a non-standard special air compressor.

The selection of air compressor equipment for sandblasting is directly related to its operational reliability

Air compressors used for sandblasting are classified according to their air delivery capacity (which refers to the volume of gas discharged per minute by the air compressor converted to the volume in the suction state during operation):

1. Air compressor for small sandblasting (with an exhaust volume of less than 10 cubic meters per minute)

2. Air compressor for medium-sized sandblasting (with an exhaust volume of 10 to 100 cubic meters per minute)

3. Air compressor for large-scale sandblasting (with an exhaust volume of over 100 cubic meters per minute).

The commonly matched air compressor models for sandblasting machines range from 45kw to 75kw

Selecting an air compressor suitable for sandblasting can fully utilize the functions of the sandblasting machine, thereby continuously improving the quality of sandblasting processing.

When selecting an air compressor for a sandblasting machine, the general requirement is a 6 cubic meter air compressor paired with a sandblasting tank, operating at an air pressure of 0.8 MPa. The air storage tank should be larger, depending on the number of spray heads.

It doesn't matter if it's a little big, but it can't be too small.

If cost is a consideration, you can refer to the data above for selection.

To connect the air compressor with the sandblasting machine, it is also necessary to equip with an air storage tank and a dryer. The air storage tank is used to store the air generated by the air compressor, ensuring the stability of the air source. The dryer is used to remove the oil and moisture from the air, ensuring that the air reaching the sandblasting machine is dry, and also reducing the sand blockage problem caused by sand agglomeration.
